Hansa offers a homestay service to help our international students find suitable accommodation during their stay in Toronto. This is the best way to help them assimilate into Canadian life. Our ESL students are generally between the ages of 18 and 25 and typically study at Hansa for a period of four weeks to a year. We host about a third of our students from Asia, a third from Latin America, and a third from Europe, the Middle East or elsewhere.

We have two campuses, both located in the Yonge and Eglinton area. Primary and secondary students study at our Eglinton campus. Advanced and night school students study at our Yonge Street campus. In addition to language learning, we organize extracurricular activities, tourist visits and advise students on many other topics of interest.

Normally, students apply for homestay from abroad when they register for classes at Hansa. Generally, these students seek to stay with a Canadian family to improve their English and experience firsthand the Canadian way of life. For many, this is their first trip abroad and they are looking for an educational and supportive home away from home. Members of their apartment are often referred to by students as “host mom,” “host dad,” or “host family.”
Being a home host requires more than just securing the room and plank in your home. It takes patience, understanding, and dedication to make sure students feel comfortable, especially during their first few weeks in Canada.
Give each student a private room that no one else has access to without your permission. This room cannot be placed in the basement (with some possible exceptions)
Our best hosts integrate students into the family as much as possible. This includes taking students shopping with them, showing them around town, and accompanying them while they are at home. Students feel more comfortable with hosts who enjoy their company, spend time with them, and are friendly and helpful. Students also comment on the quantity and quality of food, general cleanliness, access to the school, and the rules they are expected to follow.

When students are happy with their stay at home, it is usually a much more pleasant experience for the hosts and students often decide to stay longer, return next year or refer a friend. Feedback provided by students is used by the Homestay office to consider future home placements.
Since our international students are young in Toronto, often with limited English proficiency and very different cultural norms, we urge homeowners to try to understand how difficult it can be for them to adjust to their new surroundings. Students should feel like they can trust their home to find where to go on their first day of school and help them with their daily routine. We ask that home hosts make their expectations very clear to the student and contact the Homestay office with any questions or concerns.
As a guest in your home, students are expected to abide by the house rules. First, the teachers and staff here were very good. They were always nice to the students. From the beginning, they did everything possible to make students feel at home at UMC.

Second, I liked all my classmates! They all came from different parts of the world and by talking to them I learned more about different cultures and countries.
My experience at UMC was wonderful! The staff there was very nice and willing to help when I needed their help. The teachers there were patient; if you have questions, they will be more than happy to explain. UMC is located near the subway station, which made travel easy. UMC also had an English-only policy, which encourages us to speak English as much as we can on campus. I think that really helped me with my speaking skills.
UMC is located in downtown North Toronto; there is a large supermarket near the school which was very convenient.
I really liked UMC; It was my best experience in Canada. The teachers were really nice and helpful. I have made friends with many people from different countries. I have improved my English a lot. I now feel more confident about my speaking and writing skills.
Summer & Winter Camps
If your trip is less than 1 month, don’t waste time in this school. They are all good, but the quality of the classes is not good. Many teachers were absent and for several hours we just played games and watched movies.
Social activities were organized during school hours and not on weekends. There were no free activities on the weekend.
I booked a one week super intensive class (30 courses) and had almost no classes. The school did not want to reimburse
