According to experts, the definition of parental involvement is the sharing of responsibilities of parents and teachers to help their children get an education and achieve educational goals. Parental involvement occurs when teachers involve parents in school meetings or activities, and when parents offer voluntary support at home and at school. In this way, they make a commitment. Parents are committed to prioritizing their children’s educational goals and teachers are committed to listening and providing spaces for cooperation with parents.
Parental involvement in school is different from parental involvement, but both are beneficial. Parental involvement is parental involvement in school activities or activities, and teachers provide information about students ’learning resources or qualifications. Following the change in the ESSA Act (NCLB), our focus as educators shifted to parental involvement. We start by providing resources to parents, inviting them to events, and helping them monitor their children’s progress. Parental involvement and involvement in education is even more important now than ever as it declines. In 2016, a study showed a decrease in the number of parents who believe that a close relationship between parents and teachers is beneficial.  Parents now prefer remote communication methods, such as online student portals, and are less likely to attend parent conferences or school events. This change is sudden and depends on what it means for parental involvement. While digital tools help families stay informed, students miss this opportunity when parents do not offer time and support.
The factors behind this change in parental involvement in school are multifaceted. Some parents have scheduling or transportation issues that make it difficult to volunteer or attend parent conferences. Others, such as low-income or minority families, believe that employees are bothering them or showing a lack of cultural awareness.  If the parent-teacher relationship is not established at the beginning of the course, parents do not even know that they will be admitted to the center. However, some groups are at higher risk of having low parental involvement. Parental involvement is lowest in families with children below the poverty line or with older children, as well as in parents who do not speak the primary language of the area or who have not finished high school.
Parental involvement in school is the first step to parental involvement and ultimately parental collaboration. When parents and teachers work together to create a good class, they have a profound effect on their students. Students whose parents are involved not only get high scores on the tests – they also increase their attendance, self-esteem, and graduation rates. The relationship between parents and teachers is more than an added benefit in the classroom. They are important in helping students reach their academic potential individually and in the classroom. If we, as educators, do not create spaces for parental collaboration in our schools, we will limit the growth opportunities of the class.
How Parent Involvement Leads To Student Success
In more than fifty different studies on parental involvement, researchers in the field of education have found a link between family involvement and academic performance . And the sooner teachers establish parental involvement, the more effective they will be at improving student performance. Parent associations formed during the elementary school years form a solid foundation for student achievement and future communication opportunities. 
Parental involvement also reduces the number of missed classes or more than twenty days of the school year. When teachers talked to parents at home, for example, absenteeism was reduced by 20%.  Even after considering class level and absence in the previous lesson, parents report that the number of days adjacent students miss the general lesson is small. Two-way communication between parents and teachers forces students to attend daily classes and increases attendance.
Family relationships benefit not only students but also parents and teachers. Teachers can prepare parents to help with academic homework or concepts. And motivated parents think very well of teachers, which improves teacher morale. Knowing more about a student’s family life can help teachers prepare lessons that best meet the student’s needs or interact more effectively with the family. Classes with parents generally work best because more support is given to students.  When parents and teachers come together, everyone wins!
It’s never too late to lay the groundwork for a parent-teacher relationship at school. But the sooner you do, the better equipped your students will be to reach their academic potential.
