Program Cost: The program itself is free, students will need a laptop and internet access to fully participate in their courses. BWSI will provide as much material as possible, please contact us for questions or requests – we want all students to get involved!

Mit All Sports Summer Day Camp

Our program is open to U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and international students attending high school in the United States. Due to logistical challenges we cannot accept students from outside the United States, all students must remain in the United States for the July program.

Students must make significant progress in online courses by implementing the Summer Program to ensure that they are prepared and well prepared for participating in BWSI programs. Students can take part in one or more of the online courses to decide who is interested, but remember that online courses take a long time, and we suggest you choose one course as soon as possible.

Program Cost: The program itself is free but for out-of-state students in need of housing accommodation there is a fee ($ 5,000 for 4 weeks). This fee is waived in whole or in part based on family income (proof of income will need to be provided) The school may have come out, but the MIT pK-12 community has never donated ‘ best to learn, do and innovate throughout the summer. Mit’s Pk 12 Community: “what We Did On Our Summer Vacation”

Beaver Works taught a four-week residential STEM program held at the MIT campus for approximately 200 talented high school students from across the United States. Beaver Works Summer Institute (BWSI) has offered 8 courses in the world-class transformational STEM program. These courses include Autonomous Racing Car, Autonomous Air Vehicle, Cognitive Assistant, Medlytics, Cubesat, UAS-SAR, Embedded Security and 3D Printer Hacking. In July, BioBuilder’s two-week Synthetic Biology workshop presented students from Wuhan University with practical laboratory equipment and an engineering approach to biology. The project-based workshop took place at LabCentral and was enhanced by visits to the Broad Institute, where students visited the genomic sequencing facility, at MIT’s SynBioCenter, where students learned about using robots to manipulate liquids. Wuhan students also heard special presentations from current MIT students. This year iGEM’s MIT team taught a unit on responsible research analysis, and Divya Ramamoorthy, a graduate student in the laboratory of Professor Ernest Fraenkel of the Department of Biological Engineering, gave a lecture on her research using computer equipment to analyze Parkinson’s disease. Students who visited BioBuilder also heard about engineering and entrepreneurship when interacting with start-up biotechnology companies like Asimov, a synthetic biology company launched by Professor Chris Voigt of MIT’s Department of Biological Engineering. Participants’ response was ecstatic – one Wuhan student wrote that the workshop had reaffirmed their decision to apply for a biostatistics diploma, a decision they had struggled with for some time.

The Edgerton Center worked with the US-China Scitech Education Promotion Association to provide STEM exploration workshops for more than 100 students aged 12-18 from Beijing, China. Sessions ranged from understanding and building basic electronic circuits, to examining DNA and protein structures, to strobe drawings of D Harold “Doc” Edgerton veins at high speed.

About fifty K-12 educators participated in the Edgerton Center K-12 Makers Summer Workshop Series, learning the presentation and advanced technical skills essential to designing and operating successful manufacturer spaces. Seventh-year rising girls at Lynn Public Schools at GE Girls at MIT spent a week at the Edgerton Center welding electrical connections, vwalier design, building LEGO cars and tracking outbreaks of infectious zombies. They also spent a day at a nearby GE Aviation facility.

Teens Build, Race Mini Self Driving Cars At Mit

A ninth-grade girl rising in the local area spent a week at the Edgerton Center at You GO Girl! programs on practical science and engineering activities mixed with high school preparation sessions. Students built motorized LEGO® machines, experimented with strobe light photography, “raised” LEGO fish cells to understand the relationship between genes and traits, and more.

Between August 1 and 3, the Lemelson-MIT Program held a devising summer education workshop at MIT for educators interested in learning how to implement the InvenTeams JV curriculum in their classrooms, summer camps or after-school programs.

EurekaFest was held June 20-22 on the MIT campus and 15 teams celebrated high school inventory and six college inventories that won the 2019 Lemelson-MIT Student Award competition. Keynote speaker and 2013 Lemelson-MIT Award winner, Professor Angela Belcher captivated the audience with her inspiring speech that encourages high school inventories to quit smoking, even if people think your invented ideas are crazy. Prof. Belcher is Co-Director of the J-WEL Faculty pK-12 Co-Director.

TSL organized 14 educators in August to launch our INSPIRE (Innovating New Spaces for Practice and Research in Education) program. The aims of the collaboration include adapting and integrating practice spaces into the courses, co-designing research, helping colleagues put these ideas into practice, and designing new practice spaces.

Mit Vishwashanti Gurukul School, Sangli

On July 11, TSL welcomed more than 30 teachers, student teachers and education professionals to a Lunch and Play event. Lunch and Play is held every other month and is a great opportunity for local educators to experience new games and interactive tools that TSL has developed for teachers.

Members of the Beyond Rubrics team at TSL traveled to Corte Madera Middle School in Portola Valley, CA to co-design a set of integrated assessment tools. The faculty team included an English / Linguistics teacher, a Science and Mathematics teacher, a Makerspace Coordinator and a district administrator who will implement hands-on projects in classrooms this fall.

MIT has more than 40 departmental laboratories and dKK-12 centers and enterprises. The J-WEL pK-12 Cooperative Program provides knowledge of this rich community through innovative education. Our Spring Saturday program will be Virtual and the courses are based on Beaver Works Summer Institute courses. The Spring Program is intended as a first look at some of the BWSI courses we offer to 11th grade students. Completing a course will help these students feel comfortable applying for the BWSI program when they are in 11th grade.
