1. Serious health risks for future children. Even with the latest gene editing tools, “off-target effects” are an unsolved problem, and although genes can be added or deleted at the right place, we cannot predict what those added or deleted genes will do in a cell or organism. .

2.    Good for healing. Genetic manipulation is often indicated as a way to prevent the transmission of hereditary diseases. But in almost all cases, people at risk of passing on genetic diseases can have healthy, genetically related children without genetic modification using an embryo screening technique known as preimplantation genetic diagnosis, or PGD. (Pre-screening, adoption, and third-party gametes are often used as other options.)

3.    Treating people as manufactured goods. Who has the right to decide the biological future of another person? Who can perform unauthorized experiments on another person’s body? 4.    Violation of the heritage of all people. Our shared nature is where any struggle for equality begins. What if behaviors that are considered socially undesirable are problems that are solved in a system that makes “fitting the mold” a life opportunity? The Unesco Declaration on the Human Genome and Human Rights, adopted by the delegations of 77 countries, states that “the human genome supports the essential unity of all members of the human family, as well as the recognition of their inherent qualities and differences.”

5.    To reduce the political agreements that are widespread among many democratic countries. More than 40 countries and several international organizations, including the European Court, prohibit the modification of genes passed on to future generations. In the United States, the National Institutes of Health and the Food and Drug Administration have made it clear that they will not fund or approve human genetic modification to the extent that they have jurisdiction. But the US is the only country with a strong biomedical sector that has yet to impose a legal ban on the production of genetically modified humans that binds private scientists funded by fertility clinics.

6.    Reducing public distrust in science is necessary. Scientists working on gene therapy and regenerative medicine are concerned that attempts to change the genetic makeup of our species will backfire against important scientific efforts to treat disease in humans today. We can and must promote the beneficial use of genetic engineering and oppose its harmful effects.

7. Increasing inequality, discrimination and conflict in the country. In the 20th century, efforts to improve human quality were known as eugenics. And thirdly, government agencies, scientific and medical groups, and others should work to increase people’s understanding of the differences between the dangerous uses in society of powerful genetic technologies and the uses that can make people successful and good.
