At MIT, we provide our students with transformative learning experiences inside and outside the classroom. Students learn, grow, and make an impact through internships, research partnerships with faculty abroad, and participation in internationally oriented campus clubs.

MIT has students from 124 countries, and we want to invite the most talented and ambitious applicants from around the world to join them. All prospective graduate students are encouraged to apply through the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Prospective graduate students should apply through the appropriate academic department with admissions requirements and processes.

Mit International Students Office

MIT faculty can invite students from around the world to campus to conduct research projects. There is no central application process for non-degree students, but we encourage those interested to visit the department’s research website. Every year, our students participate in international internships, research projects, teaching assignments, and study abroad, which help them learn new ways of thinking and gain a deeper understanding of issues. We provide them with tourism facilities and cultural resources. Many of these opportunities are available through MIT International Science and Technology Initiatives, or MISTI, the institute’s flagship international education program.

The Institute offers scholarships, grants, and other financial assistance to MIT undergraduates and graduate students who wish to pursue one or more of the many opportunities available. Additionally, there are resources for international students looking for support in coming to MIT.

Our International Student Office offers advice and guidance on visas, taxes, cultural adaptation and emotional health and well-being. With more than 120 internationally focused campus organizations, students will find a variety of ways to explore, get involved, and be part of a meaningful community.
