I’ll be honest, before I started working in early intervention and preschool, I didn’t know it was that important. I was used to working with adults, I had never looked at early intervention. I think a lot of people are in the same boat, if they never want to, then they have no reason to watch it. While the legislature seems to cut money from early intervention programs, I realize that they do not understand it. The more we put into the early education of our children with special needs, the less they will need as they grow up. It doesn’t mean that they don’t need anything when they grow up, but they need less because at a young age they have valuable skills that they can take with them.

By law, if your child qualifies for special education services, you can get them for free in your school district if you live in the United States. If you are concerned about your child’s development, google your school’s early intervention program and make an appointment. Sometimes there is a waiting period for an appointment, so the sooner you do it, the better.

The school is great, and I like learning at school. There are always limits, no matter how much you wish there weren’t. Schools must demonstrate that they provide an adequate public education (FAPE), they do not need to demonstrate that they perform miracles. There are times when you may need additional intervention or therapy for your child, and that’s okay. That’s when projects like ours come into play.

There are many treatment options for children with autism, and it can be overwhelming and confusing. I had the opportunity to become familiar with a number of interventions, and I honestly with children on the spectrum are very different from everyone else, you have to find what works for you. I personally liked the P.L.A.Y. program (Play and Language for Autistic Children) because I like the idea of ​​parents as therapists. I like that it focuses on communication, which is one of the main deficits in autism. I like that it mainly focuses on family relationships. I still think some of the other interventions have their strengths, and I’m all for that.
