Traveling by air is still one of my favorite parts of a vacation. Although there is a long queue to pass security checks and passports.

However, my patience was put to the test when I heard that my flight might be canceled due to a pilot or cabin crew strike.

Sometimes these attacks are announced in advance so at least you can act on them, but often it is an attack and there is nothing you can do about it. This summer, a situation like this happened to my wife. He was notified via SMS that the flight had been canceled.

The message reached him just 30 minutes before the plane left, so there was nothing he could do. To make matters worse, he enjoyed a short vacation and is now trying to get home.

It looks reasonable. There you are in a foreign airport with no flights to take you home. We all want to have a long vacation.

However, you want the situation to be different. My wife inspected the apartment. He took back the car he had rented and pulled the suitcase behind him.

Intermediate English, Lesson 2: Answers

Fortunately, he charged the phone and was able to at least call the help desk. After several phone calls and a bit of frustration, he was able to book a replacement flight for the next day.

It was leaving another airport, so again he had to rent a car and drive to another city and find another night’s accommodation. Finally it was done and he flew away.

However, that is only half the story, as the alternative flight is to another city, so it is still more than 500 hundred kilometers from home. There are only two options left.

The cost is about the same, so after an anxious day after the flight was canceled, it was decided that a pleasant train trip would be best. And finally, after two more days of traveling, he finally got home. Slightly disturbed by extra travel but with good memories of a happy holiday.

Exercises) Exercise 1 Basic

First, our car was in the parking lot in the city where his journey started 10 days ago, so the car had to be collected. There was an extra charge for leaving the car more than originally planned and we had to seek compensation from the airline who canceled the return flight.

All invoices are carefully kept. These include extra car rental, return flights, including train and out-of-pocket meals and accommodation.

We expect a long delay and may have arguments from the company. To my surprise, however, my wife happily told me that the company had agreed to reimburse her for almost all of her extra expenses. There is a God! Do not despair!
