Thanks for all your votes! pretty close two horse race really. They Say it's Gonna Rain (Indian Summer Mix) finally edged it with 40%. An mp3 of the track will be uploaded shortly. As Better off Without You faired so high (37%) I will also add an mp3 of it too (but at a later date).

17.2.03 Hazel appeared in the News of the World paper. In the what ever happened to? section, Mentions the new Greatest Hits Album, Still its all publicity! |

16.1.03 The latest news on Krave the band Hazell was managing, The fivesome shrank down to a duo (Nikki and Wayne) they kept the name Krave(2) and have a new website but in this fickle pop world they have already moved on and have just joined the latest line up of Bucks Fizz (that's the Bobby G version not the Nolan or Van Day versions). Check out both the sites for references about how they met Hazell etc... I can't confirm that Hazell still has any involvement with them. |

|
16.1.03 The DVD containing the video of Who's leaving Who appears to have been re-released this time as a double pack with another of Disky's 80's titles and is readily available in most good retailers. |
17.12.02 Hazell is also performing at Flamingo's in Blackpool (170-176 Talbot Road) on the 30th of December.
17.12.02 A poll has been started to decide on you favourite album, please vote! (Jan's idea -thanks)
6.12.02 Also a reminder to everyone that she is performing on New Year's Eve at The Reflex, 184 London Road, Kingston (Norbiton BR Station). I cant make it but if anyone would like to send a short review it would be welcome.
2.12.02 Hazell's long awaited new album is finally released entitled Greatest Hits on the Time Music label - it includes re-recorded versions of all her classic hits and some new tracks, two from the Who's leaving who 2001 single and two brand new and exclusive tracks 'Change your attitude' and 'Mysterious ways'. Unfortunately there does not seem to be a single associated with the release of this album but as ever I will keep you posted. I have been asked about the production and mixing credits for this album and there are surprisingly none - it is a budget CD, though the sound quality and production is first class the sleeve and artwork are not (they could have at least found a newer picture).

Hazell Dean - Greatest Hits (2002)
|
|
Where
can you get it? Any
good record shop! or Trax
Records in Soho
or direct from Time Music
10.10.02 Hazell is obviously having a quiet period.
However Who's Leaving Who has been released on DVD by Dutch company Disky. It
is part of a Best of 80's Dance compilation which also includes Mel & Kim,
Inner City, Soul II Soul, Monie Love, Adeva and Africa Bambaata. There are also
others in the series well worth checking out. You can buy this DVD over the
counter at most good record shops in the UK for about £8.00 - or else
check out the Disky
website.
9.9.02 Also check out the new PWL Forum messageboard less clunky than the old one and far quicker to access!!
7.9.02 Check out Hi-energy Heaven a new online second hand source of some great material including Hazell!
10.4.02 The site is taking on a new look! www.heartfirst.co.uk is the new address - so please update your links (though the old address will work for a while). Lots more space, lots more time, lots more to see - so please check back soon.
10.4.02 I have had word from Ross Alexander's Label, they say they have no plans to release They say its gonna rain 2002. Dissapointing as this is I still think it could be released on Hazell's current label (Clubscene?).
26.1.02 They say its gonna rain was a hit for Hazell in 1986 getting to No. 1 in South Africa now it is to be released again in 2002. Mixed by Ross Alexander who has been responsible for the Boyz with Toyz stuff (Gay anthem albums) and worked with Motiv8, Candi Staton and Kelly Marie. Hopefuly this is the latest of Hazell's collaborations destined for her new (old stuff but re-recorded) album.
15.1.02 Welcome to the Hazell Dean page in 2002. Hazell is still recording a new album (as far as I am aware) but I have no definite news. Hazell has been spotted in lots of places of late icluding Boyz magazine and a short interview on Channel 5 (UK) regarding Pete Waterman and his Hit Factory. Any news and it will be here first.
15.1.02 New to the site is the addition of Chart Placings in the Discography section, hopefully I will be adding Video to the site very soon (I know its been promised for ages) and also a full Biography is in the process of being written.
17.11.01 Hazell is performing at The Reflex, 184 London Road, Kingston (Norbiton BR Station). I have seen her here twice before. Check out thier web site for a photo archive of past performances. Check out their site for some pictures of hazell and other performers.

11.8.01 Hazell appeared at this years Brighton
& Hove Pride held at Preston Park. It was a great day but the running
order on the main stage was in disarray, Hazell came on over an hour later than
scheduled, the previous bands had all been a bit flat some punky style Fuzzbox
soundalikes and a Sheryl Crow wannabe. Before Hazell we were treated to Horse
- a lesbian solo singer with a great voice, no too dissimilar to Hazell in the
80's with her image, she sang slower more lesbian orientated power ballads -
a duet with Hazell would be great!! After Hazell we were treated to a great
set by Jimmy Sommerville (of the Communards/Bronski Beat).
But back to Hazell - She sang three numbers Winner takes it all, Livin' on a
Prayer and Searchin' (Surprisingly not Who's Leaving Who!) The crowd came alive
as they knew all the songs and could dance away to their hearts content. Hazell
looked like she was really enjoying herself and gave the full long version of
Searchin including the unaccompanied finale which was a real treat. Afterwards
there was a long chant of Hazell! Hazell! Hazell! which really threw the compare.
Jan - it was a real joy meeting up with you in the flesh, sorry you could not change your flight in order to see Hazell, but I hope this helped!
I mentioned to friend that Hazell was performing at Brighton Pride this year and he said who? Dean or O'Connor? As it turns out he was in the know because Hazel O'Connor (with one L) was also performing much earlier in the day. I Looked up Some facts about her and surprisingly both Hazel(l)'s have had three UK top ten singles, both have had two UK number 41 singles and another top 50 single each - spooky comparison?

Who's Leavin' Who 2001 12"
Wayne G's Dream Mix and D-Bop Mix |
|
Where can you get it? Any good
record shop! |
The Remixes are quite trancey/clubby. Personally I prefer the D-Bop mix as it is closer to the original style. The two new tracks are great two, nice to hear Hazell sing something original and new, I was kinda hoping for a cover of 'we are family' but hey these are better! |
7.6.01 Hazell makes the No. 1 spot on the Trax chart (as seen in Boyz every week) Congratulations Due!! (in the end she spends three weeks at No. 1)
17.5.01 The Trax Chart (as seen in Boyz every week) has Hazell planted at no. 5, her last 2 singles (at least) have both made the number one spot, Livin on a prayer seemed to be at no. 1 for ages. Watch this space to see if she goes even further (hey it must be out or you cant get a chart position!)
15.5.01 A lot of hype about a possible duet with Steven Kimble of Sotto Voce fame - any news will follow. (7.6.01 Can't find any more news on this)
14.5.01 Hazell new single is out, never mind what everyone tells you, the 12" contains two tracks remixed by Wayne G and D-Bop and they are very Good, however the CD single has been shelved for 2 weeks (start of June), I suppose the 12" is really a DJ thing so they can start playing it down the clubs first.
12.12.00 Hazell is part managing/producing a new 'Steps' Like pop band called Krave, they have a really groovy web site. No mention of Hazell though (that I have seen). 30.1.02 - This seems to have died away?

Hazell Dean is featured in Now magazine (24 May 2000 issue). An article entitled "Comeback Queens" features three 80's stars (Sonia and Carol Decker) and how they have updated their looks since. It's mainly about hair and make-up though! But there is a great pic of Hazell! (click here for more) |

11.5.01 Hazell is performing at
The Reflex,
184 London Road, Kingston (Norbiton BR Station). The Club has been closed
for refurbishment and re-opens on the 10th.
The performance was classic, she sang Who's Leaving Who (original version),
Whatever I Do, Love Pains, Livin' on a prayer, Turn it into Love, Mamma
Mia, Searchin' and We Are Family. The new club is a vast improvement on
the old. Hazell mentions that her new single is out on Monday, with Remixes
by Wayne G and D-Bop (who are responsible for the new Geri Halliwell album).

27.8.00 Downtown, 46 Upper Kirkgate, Wakefield, Yorkshire UK.
29.7.00 Portsmouth & Southsea Gay Pride, Castle Fields, Sea Front. Also the sane night she performed at Brighton Pride. I missed both and was pissed off, usually Brighton is the first weekend August, so I booked my hols for the last week of July - and missed it!!! Lots of my friends where there saying "oh you missed Hazell!" but they tell me she did sing "Simply the best" a cover of Tina Turner song, this has been rumoured to be a new single or a title for a compilation album. I will have to find a friend who went and was sober to confirm this!
15.7.00 The Reflex,
184 London Road, Kingston (Norbiton BR Station)
21.7.00 Flamingos, 170-176 Talbot Road, Blackpool UK.
19.8.00 Gia, Islington (Thanks Jan)
17.6.00 Hazell performed at West Five in Ealing, and it was a great show!!
She Sang all her hits and talked about Football alot as England had just beaten
Germany. She also Performed at the Stag on the 30.6.00 but I was unable to go
did anyone see it?

Hazell performed on 14.04.00 at The Birdcage, (North London) (sadly I was unable to go) But there was a small review in Boyz! and a black and white pic of her wearing a Motorhead T-Shirt??? |
| In the shops now her new club hit a cover of Bon Jovi's Living On A Prayer, The CD/12" single contains 2 mixes (NRG Mix and Club Mix) and another track I've Had Enough. Best place to get hold of it is Trax records, Soho or Direct from ClubScene/Academy Street Records (see links). | |
|
on 17.03.00 at Bromptons, Earls Court (London) as part of the pubs St. Patricks Day celebrations, She started off with a Searchin' intro and then sang all the hits. Whos Leaving Who, Love Pains, Whatever I Do, Living on a prayer, Winner takes it all, Turn it into love, Searchin' and finally We are Family (Sister Sledge Cover). There was no encore, but she came back on stage and thanked Ian Stephens who wrote Searchin' and was stood in the DJ Box. Sadly she suffered from microphone trouble during the first couple of songs and a drunk also tried to mob her (and me!!, well I am cute?). However it was great to see her performing live and so well. |
